A Day of Beautiful Weather

First off, pictures:

The first is of my cuttings setup.  The cuttings need near 100% humidity, so I've wrapped them in plastic and use a misting bottle to keep them moist.  They're under a florescent light in the basement for a cool environment which will keep the foliage alive long enough to allow the buried nodes to root (at least that is the theory.)  The ones on the right are clematis cuttings and I dare say they look as healthy as the day that I cut them, which was nearly a week ago.  The rest of the cuttings are in the window box.  The second picture is the cuttings in the windowbox.  Yes, they look a bit jumbled.  Yes, it is because I, true to form, fell down the stairs while carrying it.  The fact that it didn't dump all over the carpet is a miracle.

I was able to get out to the garden site today and put in my green snow peas.  Some of the peas had a strange stem twisty thing that seemed to have squeezed the stems and twisted them into almost nothing, so I had to throw them out.  It's probably due to being out in wind with no supports.  I hope to have both green and golden peas, and the golden peas have germinated but I have yet to get them in dirt.  Hopefully we don't run into a heat wave that will burn them off before they have a chance to get established.  Checked on the watermelon, cantaloupe, and broccoli that I planted last Friday and the broccoli is doing great.  Note to self:  brassicae family is easy to grow.  Most of the melons looked okay, if a bit dry, but a couple were quite droopy.  I gave them a good soaking twice and perhaps that will be enough for them to regain turgidity.

In other news, I took some pictures of my blueberries, a couple lilacs, and other various blooms as well as flower starts and my (free) Razzleberry Hybrid tomatoes from Park Seed.  (Click for detail)

It's almost peony season!  I adore peonies because they come back every year, are easily propagated, and smell and look great.  My neighbor has the most beautiful peony; a bright red bloom that resembles a rose atop lush dark green fern-like foliage.  I'm tempted to sneak out and steal a bit some night....
