I was able to get out to the garden site today and put in my green snow peas. Some of the peas had a strange stem twisty thing that seemed to have squeezed the stems and twisted them into almost nothing, so I had to throw them out. It's probably due to being out in wind with no supports. I hope to have both green and golden peas, and the golden peas have germinated but I have yet to get them in dirt. Hopefully we don't run into a heat wave that will burn them off before they have a chance to get established. Checked on the watermelon, cantaloupe, and broccoli that I planted last Friday and the broccoli is doing great. Note to self: brassicae family is easy to grow. Most of the melons looked okay, if a bit dry, but a couple were quite droopy. I gave them a good soaking twice and perhaps that will be enough for them to regain turgidity.
In other news, I took some pictures of my blueberries, a couple lilacs, and other various blooms as well as flower starts and my (free) Razzleberry Hybrid tomatoes from Park Seed. (Click for detail)
It's almost peony season! I adore peonies because they come back every year, are easily propagated, and smell and look great. My neighbor has the most beautiful peony; a bright red bloom that resembles a rose atop lush dark green fern-like foliage. I'm tempted to sneak out and steal a bit some night....
